Suzie Hurley is a certified Senior Anusara Yoga Teacher and Director of the Willow Street Yoga Center in Takoma Park, Maryland. In this interview, Suzie shares with us her fated journey from student to teacher and her early beginnings as a reluctant teacher at Pope Airforce Base in Fayetteville, NC. Suzie has been a student of yoga since 1977, a teacher since 1981 and she is also a certified Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapist. Suzie found her teacher, John Friend, in 1994 and was one of the first certified Anusara Yoga Teachers. Today she shares with us some of the philosophy of Anusara Yoga, as well as how she recognizes the impact that her yoga practice has had on her life off the mat. Crab Creek Spring Cave system located at the beginning of the Crab Creek in Chassahowitzka WMA. The access to the underwater cave is from the river only by a small vessel or kayak. In May-June of 2009 we replaced an old line and surveyed the small but charming cave. Then enjoying the land owners hospitality we found a few more unknown before karst features in the surrounding spring forest. Looking for a mystery deep (below 100') section of this cave we tied off our the line at 58' in a very low and wide bedding plane. Visibility in the system is a good 60' before one disturbs a thick mat of jelly like orange sulfur eating bacteria. The cave aquifer fed with two sources - fresh water and a salt water that seeps into the system from deep sinkholes in a forest where brown warm (we speculate it is a chemical reaction heat) water is saturated with hydrogen sulfate. The flow and salinity are tide affected. The cave has two relatively large main entrances. The upstream from the second of the three most noticeable openings is the deeper section and downstream is the unlined no-mount section (it exits in the first opening that you see while kayaking upstream). Relatively short 20 min sidemount dive includes the traverse between two main vents and a descend into cramped deep section which floor is layered with a bacteria jelly. Everywhere in this cave we observed continuous caving process that perhaps closed the deep section and hopefully will open more passage in a future. Walls ...
